Planes, trains and automobiles! There are many ways to access the Rural Writers Retreat...
Driving: Most who attend the retreat do so by personal vehicle. You can find us on Babine Lake Road, which heads east off Highway 16 just a couple kilometres south of Smithers. From Highway 16, travel about 10 minutes along Babine Lake Road; you'll see the sign for Banner Mountain Lodge on your right. The lodge is about a kilometre down the long driveway. Click here for directions from Google.
Train: We have had participants join us by rail! (Hint: It's even more fun if you come in a group.) Check VIA Rail's schedule and be prepared for delays: train service through our region is notoriously unreliable. Taking the train works best when coming from the east, as the westbound train heads through Smithers on Thursday afternoon and returns on Sunday. Contact us if you need a pickup from the train station.
Airplane: If you're coming from afar, Smithers has a regional airport that's located about 20 minutes from the lodge. Let us know when you'll be arriving, and we'll arrange for someone to meet your flights.
We also encourage carpooling! If you're looking to team up, drop us a note with your location and we'll put the word out to other participants. You can also connect with participants on our Facebook page.
