The Rural Writers Retreat hosts accomplished writers in the fiction, non-fiction and poetry genres. Over the course of the retreat, it offers three half-day workshops, smaller breakout groups with our workshop hosts, one-on-one mentoring sessions with a professional editor and a public author reading night designed to give writers the opportunity to hone their presentation skills. Workshop content is always geared toward addressing the interests, concerns and culture of rural, northern writers. Past workshops have included online historical research, Aboriginal storytelling, professional blogging, adventure travel writing, developing your writing business and writing short fiction.
We balance writing time with play time: outside of the writing workshops, participants have the option of joining recreational activities such as yoga and hiking. Past events have also included workshops in creative dance, meditative painting and drumming, as well as wine and beer tastings.
